Polititorvet 14

Polititorvet 14 is a law enforcement headquarters renovation that consolidates the Danish National Police’s administrative, forensic, and laboratory departments within an existing building complex. Alex Poulsen Architects was responsible for the architectural transformation, interior redesign, and coordination of secure spatial solutions. The project reflects a Scandinavian approach to police architecture and public safety facility adaptation, balancing high security requirements with functionality and architectural coherence.

Welcome area

In creating an open floor plan in the foyer, the load-bearing walls have been removed, allowing the character of the space to resonate with its function as a reception and waiting area for visitors. This solution provides employees with a good overview of arriving guests. At the same time, consideration has been given to the existing materials and plaster ceilings for a cohesive expression.

A fresh breeze

Without altering the original character, functional upgrades were introduced to enhance the building’s daily use and overall quality. In the cafeteria, these improvements are evident in the spatial flow, new lighting solutions, and distinct seating areas that support various meeting needs. The updated interior design promotes a flexible and contemporary work environment..

Lounging zones

In the foyer on the first floor, lounge zones have been created in the form of cozy nooks and communal tables, facilitating interaction among people and inviting dialogue. Arrivals are greeted by a calm light blue color, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, which also contributes to the room's function.

At the national commissioner of police’s office

For the position of national commissioner of police, it is essential to operate within an efficient work environment. Accordingly, different zones have been established in the office for focus, relaxation, and meetings, both formal and informal. The patterned plaster ceilings, along with corresponding ceiling lamps and wall moldings, add character to the room in a genuine manor style.

New access routes

In the desire for a new staircase connection between the 4th and 5th floors, a natural extension of the existing elliptical main stair tower is being constructed. The extension will be built as a lightweight timber frame structure and clad in copper on both the roof and facade. The new staircase will create a presentable and easily accessible connection from all underlying floors to the cafeteria on the 5th floor.
