Lead Consultant Team Selected for the New Detention Center in Slagelse
12.04.2024
Since the beginning of 2022, Alex Poulsen Architects has been lead consultant on user involvement, construction planning, and conceptual design for Denmark’s new Slagelse Detention Center. The project was developed in close collaboration with the Danish Prison and Probation Service and our valued advisory team: ERIK Architects, Viborg Ingeniørerne, BARA-Land, and Molter Consult.
We now hand over to a new lead consultant team selected by the Danish Prison and Probation Service, and we congratulate WSP, FRIIS & MOLTKE Architects, JJW Architects, SLA, and Hollingsworth Pack on the assignment and hope that they will take good care of the project.
We look forward to following their continued work and to celebrating the completed building in a few years.
The new detention center will undoubtedly be an important benchmark for a modern correctional service and a significant contribution to the field of justice architecture in Denmark.
Normalcy and well-being
The new Slagelse Detention Center is a secure facility with space for 400 employees. The project has been designed to create a modern and future-ready building that simultaneously ensures a high level of security and a positive working environment.
The environment is designed to support control, normalization, humane rehabilitation and security combining architectural quality with strict security standards to create conditions that support well-being and dignity for both detainees and staff.
Future-proofing
Together with the client and advisory team, we have developed flexible solutions and building structures that can adapt to future changes in correctional standards and regimes. The design allows for multifunctionality and scalability across different security levels, ensuring the facility remains relevant and adaptable over time.As a result, the project incorporates flexibility and multifunctionality to ensure that building structures can be adapted to new needs over time.
The visualizations were created by Alex Poulsen Architects and ERIK Architects, , illustrating a facility that embodies the principles of justice architecture while setting new standards for correctional facility design in Denmark..
